New Race Build For 2024

Aprilia Tuareg 660 race build. The team has spent many hours over the last 18 months with the many new twin parallel machines available. Some went with the Tenere but Howard and Chris preferred the Aprilia.

The aim as always is to make a competitive race bike without spending 1,000's.

The first thing is the complete removal of ABS, then add an Enduro wheel set. We will be experimenting with KTM wheels and custom spacers. The ABS rings will be a complication but we can machine up our own if needed. The measurements taken indicate the front is very likely to work but the rear a little more tricky. Would be good for us as we collectively have many KTM 990, 950, 690 and EXC wheels knocking about. Maybe we end up machining a new hub?

Suspension, we need to add 20mm, stiffen and then modify and strengthen the tower to take the Nav gear needed for racing. The suspension as standard is actually really rather good. It really takes some pushing to feel the limitations. They did a really good job.

The usual bash plate, aftermarket exhaust will be added (there's plenty to choose from now) and then add a steering damper. The great thing about this motorcycle is that it's the same motor and electronics found in the Tuono which means there are pages of aftermarket mods.

We will update on our Facebook page and on our YouTube channel on the build. We have 3 months until the 1st rally of the season in Morocco. Not sure we will make it but we will try. The suspension will be the biggest hurdle.

Chris also has a plan B to just completely swap the front end (using a modified triple clamp) for a 990 S. We will see what happens!
